Pune is a haven for students who come to Pune to earn their graduate and post graduate degrees. Because of the buzzing student and working community, the demand for accommodation is very high. Students and fresher at jobs cannot afford very luxurious lifestyles. Hence, they look for cheap accommodation in good localities. The cheapest accommodations available in Pune are hostels and PGs.Paying guest accommodation is quite cheap and they provide every possible amenity to residents. PGs usually have certain restrictions that PG owners expect inmates to abide by. Some of these restrictions include limited visits from friends, alcohol consumption and some may even go to the extent of banning non vegetarian food stuffs. PGs are usually exclusively for men or women.
PG in Pune you will have to spend around Rs 3000 to Rs 4000 on a sharing basis, which is much lesser than what you would spend living all by yourself in an apartment. You can also rent a single room for yourself, but that will cost you a little more. These PGs have uninterrupted water and electricity supply. You can opt for food from the PG owner or utensils and cooking gas to prepare your own food. If you opt for food, then you will have to pay Rs 6000 to Rs 7000 extra. PGs are usually fully furnished and they even have facilities for laundry and Wi-Fi. Furniture pieces such as beds, mattresses, televisions, refrigerators, chairs, sofas, curtains etc. are provided by the owner of the PG. Utility bills are paid for by the owner of the PG and cleaning and housekeeping services are provided too. If you have a 2 or 4 wheeler, then you can also get parking space for your vehicle.

PGs are easily available in places like Viman Nagar, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Magerpatta Main Road etc. These places are well connected to the rest of the city. Magerpatta Main Road is a good location to stay in particularly for people working in the Zensar and Eon IT Park. Departmental stores, bus stops, auto stands etc. are quite close to these places.
Apart from the rent, you might have to pay a deposit on the PG. The deposit amount is much lesser than what is commanded for regular apartments. For a PG whose monthly rent is around Rs 5000, you will have to deposit Rs 25000 with the PG owner as caution money. You may be charged brokerage if you find the PG through a real estate agent. However, this amount is negotiable.
